Composer

Katya Pine composes original music for screen, stage and concert. Her projects range from documentaries, sci-fi, indie film, tv to art songs, opera, theatre and more. Katya is passionate about expressing the human condition through original music and brings her eclectic styles and approaches to the needs of each project.  A recent recipient of a Canada Council grant, she completed composing the 3-Act Opera “More Than a Queen”, on the life of Josephine Bonaparte as told from the feminist perspective in a libretto by f.g. klingenberg.

Katya writes extensively for voice. Song cycles: “A Salutation to Life” for soprano, piano, sitar and tambura performed on CBC radio’s ‘Music Toronto’ with soprano, Esther Ewing and “The Garden Going on Without Us” containing many jazz underpinnings, as featured on her CD “Taking Flight”, available on iTunes and here. Selected vocal compositions appear in the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Vocal Syllabus.

Katya received her composition degree from the University of Toronto, with post graduate studies in London, England, as a recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s prestigious Floyd Chalmers award.  She is an affiliate composer of the Canadian Music Center, Canadian League of Composers, Screen Composers Guild of Canada and the Association of Canadian Women Composers.

Katya is based in British Columbia, Canada.
