An affiliate composer of the Canadian Music Center, Katya composes music for concert, production studios, independent film, documentary, television, opera and live musical theatre. Katya’s diverse musical writing and performing styles are aptly demonstrated in her song cycles: “A Salutation to Life” for soprano, piano, sitar and tambura performed on CBC radio’s ‘Music Toronto’ (with Esther Ewing, soprano) and “The Garden Going on Without Us” containing many jazz underpinnings, as featured on her newly released CD “Taking Flight” (also available on iTunes).

Katya’s pedagogical piano pieces are regularly published in the Canadian National Conservatory of Music (CNCM), Canadian Composers Series. Several of her vocal compositions appear in the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Vocal Syllabus. A collection of her pedagogical piano pieces are available in her new publication, “Images”.

Katya Pine received her composition degree from the University of Toronto, with post graduate studies in London, England, as a recipient of the Ontario Arts Council’s prestigious Floyd Chalmers award.

In addition to composing, Katya offers Composition, advanced Piano and theory training to people of all ages from her Metro Vancouver and the Lower Fraser Valley, British Columbia, based studio. Many of her students have and continue to win Provincial and National awards.

My passion is sharing my love for music developed through more than 35 years of musical
composing, performing, training and teaching.
